The Didrichsen Art Museum is one of the most fascinating museums in Helsinki, with all its works donated by two art lovers — Danish businessman Gunnar Didrichsen (1903–1992) and his wife Marie-Louise (1913–1988). Established in 1965, their descendants carried on their legacy and continued to expand the museum’s collection over time, making it one of Helsinki’s most renowned art museums.

The Didrichsens began collecting art in 1940, amassing thousands of pieces of international modernism as well as works by several Finnish masters, including also some ancient artworks. This museum houses Finland’s most stunning private collection of modern art, featuring works by 20th-century Finnish artists along with pieces by international artists such as Picasso, Kandinsky, Léger, Miró, Moore, Giacometti, and Arp. In addition, it is the only museum in Finland to hold a collection of Pre-Columbian and Oriental art.

The museum is housed in the Didrichsen Villa, located on Kuusiluoto Island just outside Helsinki. Designed by architect Viljo Revell, the villa masterfully blends natural beauty with architectural design, offering an outstanding sea view from the house. Sculptures can be found throughout the villa’s gardens — the largest collection of Henry Moore's works in Northern Europe is casually displayed among the gardens and living spaces.
