The Gyllenberg Art Museum

The Gyllenberg Art Museum is one of Finland’s finest private collection museums, housing one of the country’s most extensive private art collections, with an impressively broad range of both domestic and international works. It was the former residence of banker and art collector Ane Gyllenberg (1891–1977) and his wife Signe, located on the island of Kuusiluoto in western Helsinki.

Part of the former residence has been preserved intact, with furniture and paintings displayed exactly as they were when the Gyllenbergs lived there. The dining room features masterpieces from the 16th and 17th centuries, such as works by Titian and Tintoretto, while the living room showcases pieces by artists from Finland’s Golden Age. The upstairs area, formerly bedrooms and the master’s study, now hosts special exhibitions. In 1955, the museum underwent an expansion, adding gallery spaces and a dedicated exhibition area for works by Helene Schjerfbeck. It also holds one of the largest private collections of her works. Occasionally, Sunday concerts are held here.
