Located on the northern shore of the Gulf of Finland, Espoo, together with Helsinki, Vantaa, and Kauniainen, forms the Greater Helsinki metropolitan area. It is the second-largest city in Finland after Helsinki, and is home to Aalto University, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, and Nokia.

The most well-known museum in Espoo is the Espoo Museum of Modern Art, housed in a renovated printing house, which serves as a major venue for modern art exhibitions. Other museums worth visiting include the Museum of Farmland, the Espoo Car Museum, the Akseli Gallen-Kallela Museum, the Finnish Toy Museum, the Espoo City Museum, and the Finnish Watch Museum. The city boasts several beautiful manor estates, two of which are open to visitors. These estates feature restaurants and clubs, and much of the furniture inside is antique and exquisitely preserved. The city offers a variety of outdoor activities that allow people to connect closely with nature and enjoy its sounds. Walking, camping, and picnicking are particularly popular.
