Raseborg

Raseborg is a town on the coast of the Gulf of Finland in southern Finland, located 93 kilometers from the capital Helsinki. Established in 2009 and governed by the region of Uusimaa, its name originates from Raseborg Castle.

Raseborg is a bilingual city, with some residents speaking Finnish and others speaking Swedish. The town’s most famous attraction is Raseborg Castle, which was built in three distinct periods between the 14th and 16th centuries. Construction first began between 1373 and 1378, making it a witness to long-standing history. Nearby the castle lies the site of Finland’s largest open-air theater—the Raseborg Summer Theatre, built in 1966. Every July, numerous performances are held there, often related to the castle’s history.
