Tivoli Gardens

Tivoli Gardens is a famous amusement park and leisure park in Copenhagen, Denmark. Located in the heart of the Danish capital, it covers an area of 20 acres and is one of Denmark’s most renowned amusement parks, often referred to as the “Fairytale City.” It is open to the public annually from April 22 to September 19.

The park first opened on August 15, 1843. Its original attractions included a series of fantastical, Eastern-style foreign buildings: a theater, music pavilion, restaurants and cafés, flower gardens, as well as mechanical amusement rides such as a carousel and a simple scenic railway. The park’s most famous attraction is its wooden roller coaster, Rutsjebanen, also known as Bjerg Banen (Mountain Track). Built in 1914, it is the oldest wooden roller coaster still in operation in the world and has been designated a classic by ACE. There is also a striking Chinese-style structure—the Pagoda and Theater—which has four tiers, soaring upturned eaves, elegant columns, backing onto a hill on one side and bordered by water on three. Each floor of the pagoda houses a restaurant, allowing visitors to enjoy Chinese cuisine while taking in the views of the lake and surrounding landscape.

Since its inception, Tivoli Gardens has never recorded a deficit. Its strong profitability is due not only to its enchanting scenery but also to its long history and rich traditions. The park features over 20 thrill rides of varying intensity, and visitors can also take the Flying Trunk ride to experience scenes from the beloved fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen.
