Zhonghua Book Company

The Zhonghua Book Company is an authoritative publishing institution in China that edits, collates, and publishes ancient texts, as well as one of the country's oldest publishing houses. Founded in 1912 by Mr. Lu Feikui, it adhered to the mission of "enlightening the people," editing and publishing textbooks and cultural literature, and quickly developed into a large-scale, comprehensive publishing enterprise. In 1958, it was transformed into a specialized publisher of ancient texts dedicated to the collation and publication of classical Chinese and modern literature, history, philosophy, philology, and related scholarly works and popular reading materials. In 1997, it relocated to an independent office building in Fengtai District.

For nearly a century, the Zhonghua Book Company has taken it upon itself to promote China’s outstanding traditional culture, publishing a large number of high-quality books centered on traditional culture and collating and publishing many major classic works. With over 20,000 titles published in total, it enjoys a high reputation both at home and abroad. Notably, after twenty years of effort, organizing dozens of national experts and scholars to collate and annotate, the publication of the “Twenty-Four Histories” and the Draft History of Qing is widely regarded as the greatest project of ancient text collation and publishing in New China. Other key publications include the Zizhi Tongjian (Comprehensive Mirror to Aid in Government), the Series of Historical Notes from Various Dynasties, the Newly Compiled Compendium of the Hundred Schools of Thought, and the Basic Series of Chinese Classical Literature, forming a rich collection of published resources and earning widespread acclaim both domestically and internationally.
