Vigeland Museum

The Vigeland Museum is located in Oslo, Norway, primarily housing works created by the renowned Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland. It was once his early residence and workshop. The building became the Vigeland Museum in 1947 and opened to the public, allowing many visitors to admire the master’s great works. To its north lies the famous Vigeland Sculpture Park, which attracts large numbers of tourists year-round.

The Vigeland Museum displays full-scale plaster models of many bronze and granite sculptures, all completed at actual size. During the creative process, Mr. Vigeland received no assistance from students or other artists. Stone carving and bronze casting were carried out by hired craftsmen. The first and second floors of the museum are exhibition rooms, while the third floor preserves Vigeland’s living quarters, showcasing 1,650 sculptures, 420 wood carvings, and 12,000 drawings by the master. In recent years, the Vigeland Museum has also regularly hosted temporary exhibitions of contemporary and modern art, continually striving to enhance the artistic ambiance of the museum.
