Huangpo Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery

Taiyuan Municipal Huangpo Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery is situated west of Yijing Village in Wanbailin District. In the spring of 1959, following the directive of the Taiyuan Municipal Committee, the Hexi District Government centralized the remains of revolutionary martyrs who were scattered in 36 villages across 11 townships—such as Yao Village, Jinci, Jinyuan, and Xiaojingyu—during the Battle of Taiyuan, and built the Huangpo Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery. The cemetery is the final resting place of 407 revolutionary martyrs, including one regimental staff officer from the Eighth Route Army who died during the War of Resistance against Japan, 402 martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Battle of Taiyuan, and four PLA soldiers who gave their lives protecting people's lives and property during the construction of New China. In 2009, a large granite relief wall titled “Memorial Wall of the Battle of Taiyuan” was erected. The relief is divided into four sections: “Pre-Battle Mobilization,” “Peripheral Battles,” “Divide and Disintegrate,” and “Capture of Taiyuan.” It features 44 relatively independent yet interconnected scenes that vividly depict the entire process of the Battle of Taiyuan. In 1991, Huangpo Martyrs' Cemetery was designated as a district-level key protected martyrs’ memorial building. In 2002, it was named a patriotic education base by the Taiyuan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. In 2009, it was designated as a national defense education base and a Shanxi Provincial Patriotic Education Base by the provincial government.
