Hands-on Trail Eco Tour: Tefuye Ancient Trail Work Holiday

The Chiayi Forest District Office of the Forestry Bureau is holding a trail work holiday event from October 28 to 30 on the Tefuye Ancient Trail and within Alishan National Scenic Area, inviting members of the public aged 18 and above who are interested in trail maintenance to participate. Registration is open from now until October 16, 2016.

Huang Miaoxiu, Director of the Chiayi Forest District Office, stated that the trail work holiday (trail working holiday) aims to provide a learning and experiential space as well as a channel for giving back to the environment for those who are willing to engage in mountain and forest conservation. Through learning and hands-on participation in basic trail maintenance tasks, participants can contribute to society by repairing trails and tidying up the environment. They can also find physical and mental rejuvenation and fulfillment through these activities.

Since 2007, the Forestry Bureau has actively promoted public participation and public-private collaboration. Organizing trail work holiday events provides the public with opportunities to take part in the conservation of Taiwan’s ecological environment. It is hoped that through the process of trail maintenance, people can view nature from a different perspective, shift their recreational behavior, and transform from consumers of nature into producers or participants—channeling public energy into the power of trail maintenance and management.

This work holiday event will take place from October 28 to 30, 2016, for a total of three days and two nights. Registration is open from now until October 16 (Sunday), with plans to enroll 30 participants. The fee for each participant is NT$3,900 (including transportation fees from Chiayi Railway Station or Chiayi HSR Station to Alishan National Scenic Area and Tefuye Ancient Trail, accommodation, meals, insurance, and activity expenses). Registration forms must be downloaded online and submitted via fax or email.
