Reeperbahn
Reeperbahn, also known as the "Kiez's main drag," is a street in the St. Pauli district of Hamburg, Germany. Its name originates from the ropes used in port services. This street is the center of Hamburg’s nightlife and is the largest – in Germany, featuring – clubs, sex shops, discos, adult theaters, a sex museum, bars, and more.
Reeperbahn is well-known for its association with The Beatles. In the early 1960s, the then-unknown band performed at several nightclubs on the Reeperbahn. John Lennon once said, “I might have been born in Liverpool – but I grew up in Hamburg.” At the intersection of the Reeperbahn and the Große Freiheit street stands Beatles-Platz, commemorating Britain’s greatest band. Between 1960 and 1962, the five-member band, including their original bassist Stuart Sutcliffe, played hundreds of concerts in this –. Although most of the original clubs have since closed, it remains a must-visit spot for fans. The Indra Musik club, where The Beatles played their first Hamburg concert, still hosts live music events today, and visitors interested in music history can check it out.
