Situated along the central east-west axis of the Cultural Island in Taiyuan’s Changfeng Business District, Shanxi Province, the Shanxi Grand Theatre is the defining architectural landmark of the island. The theatre complex occupies a total site area of about 85,697 square meters, with the main building rising 54 meters and extending 210 meters in length. With a total investment of 790 million yuan, it mainly consists of a 1,628-seat main theatre, an 1,170-seat concert hall, a 458-seat small theatre, and various rehearsal halls.

The Shanxi Grand Theatre is capable of hosting large-scale operas, dance dramas (including ballet), plays, major magic and acrobatic shows, large variety performances, grand symphony concerts, traditional ethnic music performances, and chamber music concerts. The main theatre stage is designed in a "品"-shaped layout, consisting of a main stage, symmetrically arranged side stages, and a rear stage. The concert hall is a classic "shoe-box" style venue suitable for large-scale indoor symphonic performances, and is equipped with facilities such as orchestra lounges, workrooms, instrument storage rooms, and music teaching spaces. The small theatre is versatile, able to be configured into various basic stage layouts—including a flat hall, conference hall, small theatre, thrust-stage theatre, and center-stage configuration—making it suitable for a wide range of local operas, spoken dramas, and special performances.
