Berlin Cathedral

Guide Built between 1894 and 1905 during the reign of Kaiser Wilhelm II, it was designed by Julius Carl Raschdorff. Berlin Cathedral was constructed as a court and memorial church for the House of Hohenzollern after the demolition of the old cathedral. Against public opposition at the time, Berlin Cathedral was topped with a richly decorated dome in the Italian Renaissance style, as per Wilhelm II’s wishes. The cathedral was heavily damaged during World War II and underwent restoration between 1975 and 1993, although its original decorations were simplified.

The interior of the church is lavishly and magnificently decorated, also designed during the same period by the same architect, Raschdorff. Among the most precious features are the coffins of the Great Elector and his wife Dorothea, King Friedrich I and Queen Sophie Charlotte, which are of immense value. The high altar is the work of F·A·Stüler from 1850. 　 Highlights The art gallery is well worth a visit, offering unique views. Free organ concerts are held every afternoon at 3 pm.
