On June 10, 2017, shocking news spread among Taiwanese: Chi Po-lin, the director of "Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above," died in a helicopter crash while scouting locations near the Changhong Bridge in Hualien. The pilot and assistant also lost their lives. Taipei 101 promptly announced that it would light up in tribute to Director Chi Po-lin from 6:30 PM to 10:00 PM on June 11. In addition to displaying “Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above” at the spire, the words “Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above — Forever Chi Po-lin Green On” would also be projected on the exterior walls of the 59th and 60th floors.”The originally scheduled purple lighting for Sundays was changed to white lighting.

Just on June 8, the production launch conference for "Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above II" had been held. The sequel was not only set to feature aerial footage of Taiwan but also included plans for international shoots. A 4K teaser trailer for "Beyond Beauty: Taiwan from Above II" was unveiled at the press event. The untimely passing has left the public, fans of the original film, and those who care about Taiwan deeply saddened.
