Weekly Weather Forecast: Typhoon Merbok Forms—Watch Out for Heavy Rain This Week

Affected by the outer cloud bands of the typhoon, on the 12th, most areas will be mostly cloudy to sunny, with localized brief showers in central and southern regions. Other areas may see localized brief thunderstorms in the afternoon. On the 13th, as a frontal system approaches and under the influence of southwest winds, there is a chance of localized heavy rain or torrential rain; western and northeastern regions may experience brief showers or thunderstorms, while other areas could see brief thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Starting from Wednesday the 14th, under the influence of a stationary front (originating from the southern sea area of Japan and extending westward to Yunnan) and southwest airflow, scattered showers or thunderstorms are expected across the country, with a chance of heavy rain or torrential rain, especially in western regions where there is a high likelihood of torrential rain or higher levels of precipitation. On the 12th, low clouds may affect visibility in Kinmen and Matsu; on the 12th and 13th, there is a chance of foehn winds in southeastern regions; southwestern, southeastern, Hengchun Peninsula, Green Island, Orchid Island, Penghu, and coastal areas of Kinmen are prone to swells, so extra caution is advised.
