Like only a few other cities in Germany, Nuremberg confronts the legacy of the Nazi era head-on. Today, on the site of the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds — the location used by the Nazi Party from 1933 to 1938 — there remain several buildings covering over 4,000 square meters — the Documentation Center of the Nazi Party Rally Grounds, which records the hubris of the Nazis and provides a profound insight into the essence of Nazism.

The Documentation Center at the Nazi Party Rally Grounds is one of the few surviving remnants of the Nazi era. Fifty-five years after the war, the center began in 2001 to present the history of the site and the unlawful rule of the Nazis. The permanent exhibition “Fascination and Terror” primarily explores the background and consequences of Nazism, with a particular focus on key themes directly linked to Nuremberg: the history of the Nazi Party Rallies, the architecture of the rally grounds, the “Nuremberg Laws” of 1935, the “Nuremberg Trials” of 1945/46 against the main Nazi criminals and their twelve subsequent trials, as well as the difficult process of dealing with the Nazi architectural legacy after 1945.

In addition, the “Memorium Nuremberg Trials” museum, located in Courtroom 600 of the Palace of Justice’s criminal trial chamber, also showcases the historical events of Nuremberg; this is the exact place where the main Nazi criminals were tried in 1946. It is open to the public except on Rose Monday, Carnival Tuesday, December 24, December 25, and December 31.
