Miraflores Palace

Miraflores Palace is the presidential palace of Venezuela, located in the historic center of Caracas, the capital. Originally built as a private residence for President Joaquín Crespo and his wife, Jacinta Ibarra, it became the official presidential residence starting in 1911, with General Cipriano Castro being the first president to reside there.

The palace houses the presidential offices, living quarters, and several major halls, among which the Ayacucho Hall, Boyacá Hall, Joaquín Crespo Hall, and Sun of Peru Hall are the most renowned. The Ayacucho Hall is named after the Battle of Ayacucho and serves as the venue where the president receives foreign leaders and delivers national addresses. A portrait of Simón Bolívar is also displayed in this hall.

The Boyacá Hall was named to commemorate Simón Bolívar's victory in the Battle of Boyacá in 1819. Constructed in the 1960s, it is one of the largest halls in Miraflores Palace and is mainly used for hosting banquets. The Joaquín Crespo Hall, originally known as the Hall of Mirrors, is where the president formally receives cabinet ministers and domestic business leaders, as well as where new ministers and ambassadors are appointed. A long central table is placed in the hall, and two exquisite murals hang on the wall behind the presidential chair. Additionally, the hall features four large white crystal mirrors, from which it gets its name.

The Sun of Peru Hall is named in honor of a painting of the sun gifted by the Peruvian government. The hall is adorned with artworks symbolizing day and night, as well as the four seasons. It is one of the most representative halls in Miraflores Palace and is where the president receives foreign ambassadors for credential presentations and signs international agreements. The overall architectural style of Miraflores Palace is Neoclassical, exuding solemnity and dignity. Surrounded by lush gardens and shaded trees, it stands as one of Venezuela’s most important buildings.
