Quirky & Charming: A Photographer Captures 40 Solitary Houses with a Smartphone

Travel photography is both a form of discovery and an expression of the inner world. Venezuelan photographer Manuel Pita began his creative journey under the pseudonym "Sejkko" in 2012. While living in Lisbon, Portugal, he stumbled upon a red-and-white solitary house against the blue sky and white clouds, and the serene atmosphere instantly captivated Sejkko. From then on, he started a photography project titled "Lonely House," capturing images with his smartphone.

To convey the sense of solitude, he traveled to various locations—spanning Spain, France, Croatia, and beyond—to find standalone buildings for his shoots. Through his images, Sejkko aims to show how homes can reflect the personalities of their owners and often represent their dream dwellings, which also led him to reflect on his own life.

It’s not hard to notice the highly consistent composition in his photos. Not only are they symmetrical, but they also exude a clean, fresh aesthetic. In reality, finding such isolated structures in remote corners of the world isn’t easy, so he also relied on post-editing to remove distracting elements like lamp posts or trash bins, further emphasizing the houses' solitude. Still, these photos continuously remind viewers of home and memories—thoughtfully crafted.
