Maracay Air Museum

The Maracay Air Museum is the only aviation-themed museum in Venezuela and one of the largest museums in Latin America. It is located in the renowned northern Venezuelan city of Maracay, adjacent to the Venezuelan Air Force Officer School. Established on December 10, 1963, it officially opened to the public the same year.

The Maracay Air Museum houses the largest collection of aircraft, engines, weapons, related documents, photographs, maps, paintings, memorabilia, and other historical artifacts in Venezuela, making it one of the country’s most extensive museums. The museum includes two of the country’s largest air force bases, showcasing over forty aircraft—including a gyroplane, four helicopters that served from the 1920s to the 1950s, and Venezuela’s first military aircraft, the French-made G.3 biplane. These planes were all used by Venezuela at different points in its history and vividly illustrate the development of the country’s aviation industry.

In 1976, the Maracay Air Museum expanded with the addition of the Hall of Fame, which collects military memorabilia from across Venezuela from the time of independence to the present day. Today, the museum is rapidly evolving into a national-level military-themed museum that combines science education and tourism.
