Mochima National Park

Mochima National Park was established in 1973 and is named after the nearby town of Mochima. It spans across the states of Anzoátegui and Sucre, covering the entire coastline between Puerto La Cruz and Cumaná as well as 32 adjacent islands, with a total area of 94,935 hectares. It is one of Venezuela’s largest national parks.

The western part of the park in Anzoátegui State is mostly covered by sea, earning it the title of Venezuela’s second marine park. In contrast, the eastern section in Sucre State mainly consists of mountains and forests. It is said that Mochima National Park was created to protect these mountainous forests and the stunning Caribbean coastline to the east. Among the many parks along Venezuela’s northeastern coast, Mochima is the most famous. Its shoreline is dotted with beaches, bays, and picturesque islands, and its mild climate attracts large numbers of domestic and international tourists every year for vacation and sightseeing.
