Morgan Lewis Windmill

Morgan Lewis Windmill is the last remaining operational sugar windmill in Barbados. Milling ceased in 1947, and the grinding equipment was moved to a museum for preservation in 1962. In 1996, the Morgan Lewis Windmill was included in the World Monuments Watch program by the World Monuments Fund, and restoration work on the windmill began the following summer.

In 1997, American Express provided emergency damage repair assistance for the Morgan Lewis Windmill, which reopened to the public in 1999. The windmill’s original functional parts were preserved intact, and after half a century, the windmill began operating again. During the autumn harvest season, from February to July, the Morgan Lewis Windmill operates one Sunday per month to press sugarcane juice. Inside the windmill, there is a museum featuring plantation artifacts and sugarcane juice production, along with displays of vintage photographs. Visitors can also climb to the top of the windmill for scenic views.
