Khalkh Gol

Khalkh Gol means "Black Lake." Located in the semi-desert region of Mongolia's western Great Lakes Basin, it is a vast freshwater lake hailed as a radiant jewel hidden in the desert—serene, elegant, tranquil, and breathtakingly beautiful.

The lake is 37 kilometers long and 24 kilometers wide, covering an area of 575 square kilometers, with an average depth of 4.2 meters and a maximum depth of 7 meters. It is surrounded by dense vegetation and delicate sand dunes. With its backdrop of rolling mountains, blooming flora, and captivating sand dune landscapes, Khalkh Gol stands out as one of the most serene and photogenic lakes in the desert. The picturesque Khalkh Gol has become a favorite spot for locals to fish and swim. The lake also serves as a habitat for various wildlife species, including argali, ibex, Gobi bears, jerboas, and wild Bactrian camels, all living in the desert around the lake.
