The Temple of the Enshrined Sage, fully known as the Ten Directions Chan Temple of the Enshrined Sage, is located south of the Jin Temple in the southwestern suburbs of Taiyuan City. Originally the villa of Yu Chijingde, a general of the Tang Dynasty, it was converted into a temple in the fifth year of the Wude era (622 AD) during the Tang Dynasty, but is now largely in ruins. To the north of the temple lies the Stupa Courtyard, which houses a relic pagoda called the Sakyamuni Relic Pagoda, nestled by mountains and water with beautiful scenery. The pagoda was built during the Kaihuang era of the Sui Dynasty, renovated in the Song Dynasty, and rebuilt in the 16th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1751 AD). It is an octagonal seven-story structure over 30 meters tall, with doors on all four sides of each level and surrounded by glazed railings that can be leaned on. Climbing the pagoda offers panoramic views of the landscape of Jin and Fen. "Pagoda Bathed in Sunset Glow" is one of the Eight Outer Scenic Views of the Jin Temple.
