The Zhou Cypress and the Tang Locust Tree

Both are representatives of the thousand-year-old trees at the Jin Temple. The Zhou Cypress is located on the north side of the Hall of the Holy Mother. Originally, there were two cypresses, known as the "Ancient Cypresses of Equal Age," but now only one remains. The Zhou Cypress is over 2,800 years old, with a thick trunk that requires several people to encircle. To locals, this ancient cypress is a symbol of immortality. The Tang Locust Tree is located in front of the Water Mirror Stage. Though not the oldest of the ancient locust trees at the Jin Temple, it is the most lush. In spring and summer, its dense green foliage provides ample shade.
