Jinyang Lake is located in Jincheng Town at the southern end of Taiyuan City, the provincial capital. It lies to the east of the Jinci Loop Road, to the west of Taiyuan No. 1 Thermal Power Plant — the largest in the province, and to the south of the historic ancient Jinyang City and the world-renowned Jinci tourist attraction. Originally an artificial reservoir dug for the power plant in the early years of the People’s Republic of China, it has now been developed into a tourist destination. With a water area of 5.1 square kilometers and a water storage capacity of 24 million cubic meters, it is the largest artificial lake in North China, often referred to as the "Northern Lake of China." It is slightly smaller than Hangzhou’s West Lake but larger than Beijing’s Kunming Lake and Nanjing’s Xuanwu Lake. The lake abounds in fish species such as silver carp, common carp, and tilapia, with an annual aquatic yield of 236 tons.

The surrounding area of Jinyang Lake features vast land and convenient transportation. The lake surface is gently rippling, the shores are shaded by willows, and the site offers complete facilities for water recreation including yachts, motorboats, fishing, and swimming. There is also a wide range of dining, accommodation, and service businesses, making it an ideal destination for tourism and vacation. With the development of Jincheng from a township into a town and the growth of its small-town economy, the Jinyang Lake area has been planned into nine zones and one garden (namely: Water Recreation Zone, Swimming Area, Fishing Area, Central Service Area, Green Food Processing Zone, Sightseeing Agriculture Zone, Sightseeing Aquaculture Zone, Villa Zone, Sightseeing Horticulture Zone, and Lotus Garden) for domestic and international investors to choose for development.

Jincheng Town: A township under the jurisdiction of the southern suburbs of Taiyuan City. Established as Jincheng Commune in 1957 and restructured as a township in 1984. It is located in the northwest of the district, 10 kilometers from the district government.
