Tai Shan in Taiyuan is located 23 kilometers southwest of Taiyuan City, to the north of Fengyu Valley. Surrounded by lush forests and ancient cypresses, temples are hidden within and not easily seen without ascending. The name "Tai Shan" first appeared in the "Book of Song" written by Shen Yue. Legend has it that during the Northern Han Dynasty, there was a local mountain man named Shi Gandang, known for his bravery, and the mountain where he lived became famous as a result.

It is particularly worth mentioning that on May 8, 2008, a hexagonal underground palace was discovered at Longquan Temple on Tai Shan, which amazed the archaeological community. Inside the palace were five layers of coffins and sarcophagi intricately preserving sarira (Buddhist relics). Taiyuan Television Station broadcast the entire process of archaeologists opening the stone casket and golden coffin live. As the audience watched in awe, the five layers of coffins were opened one after another... The silver coffin and golden casket, dazzling in brilliance, were each exquisitely crafted, yet the final mystery remained sealed inside the golden coffin. Experts stated that due to concerns over the inadequacy of current technology to properly preserve the precious artifacts inside the golden coffin, the final layer would be opened at a later time. Even so, people in Shanxi were able to experience the mystery of cultural relic archaeology in an entirely new way. Even the soft silk ribbons on the silver coffin sparked the imagination of many. More than 1,300 years later, people could still see genuine Tang Dynasty silk, which thrilled the audience. The underground palace of Longquan Temple is the only discovered Tang Dynasty sarira burial chamber found in Shanxi to date.

Transportation

Transportation is not very convenient. Take bus 308 or 310 to Luanshitang Station. There are several drivers at Luanshitang Station, and fares can be negotiated. If you inform them to go to Duitou Ancient Village first, agree that no toll station fee will be charged (there is a toll station between Luanshitang and Duitou Ancient Village, which usually does not charge local drivers), and you can also bargain. Typically, a ride costs around 10 yuan.
