Attraction introduction

As you enter the gate of the Jin Temple, the first building you see is the Water-Mirror Stage. It is an ancient stage for theatrical performances, built during the Ming and Qing periods.

The Water-Mirror Stage integrates the architectural features of a tower, platform, hall, and pavilion. Its front section has a single-eave, rolled-canopy roof, while the rear has a double-eave, hip-and-gable roof. The stage is surrounded by airy corridors. This structure boasts a majestic design with exquisitely carved and painted details.

In China, temple fair activities have existed since the Tang Dynasty. People referred to the large-scale folk trade events held during temple festivals as temple fairs. Within the traditional customs of the Jin Temple, there are many annual events such as welcoming deities, ritual competitions, worshiping the Holy Mother, and worshiping the Water Mother, which originated as early as the Northern Song Dynasty. Performing plays in honor of the deities is a key component of these temple celebrations. Therefore, during the Jin Temple Temple Fair on the second day of the seventh lunar month and the Jin Temple River Festival on the fifteenth day of the sixth lunar month every year, it has been a tradition to hold theatrical performances on the Water-Mirror Stage, a custom that continues to this day.
