The Thai Human Image Museum is located 31 kilometers west of Bangkok and was created by Thai artists over a decade of dedication. It officially opened to the public in 1989. The museum displays around 40 life-sized human figures, each with unique expressions. These include solemn monks in deep meditation, ordinary people in daily life, and even a scene of famous Thai kings from Rama I to Rama V "gathering" in the royal palace. Enhanced by lighting, sound effects, and surrounding scenery, the figures are incredibly lifelike — sometimes even causing confusion. In fact, the art designers intentionally did not place the figures on pedestals or enclose them with barriers, but instead mixed them with real people to create an effect of reality indistinguishable from fiction. All the figures are made of fiberglass, with skin that is smooth and elastic. Their skin tone, pores, and even scars are strikingly realistic. Some figures have glistening tears in their eyes, leaving visitors in awe. These figures are more heat-resistant, durable, and dust-proof than wax statues, making them better suited to Thailand’s climate.
