Will Tigerair Taiwan launch flights to Bangkok? Preparatory office: Still under evaluation

Tigerair Taiwan, the low-cost carrier under China Airlines, is expected to officially commence operations by the end of 2014, and details regarding its preparations have garnered considerable attention. In response to recent media reports in Bangkok claiming that Tigerair Taiwan will definitely start flights to Bangkok, Zhang Qiu-Hua, a researcher at the preparatory office of Tigerair Taiwan, stated that they did visit Bangkok’s airport to gather relevant information, but whether flights to Bangkok will be launched is still under evaluation.

Tigerair Taiwan is currently in the process of pre-operational preparations. Zhang Qiu-Hua noted that potential destinations are all being visited to understand airport facilities, equipment, and flight-related details. “Bangkok is indeed one of the destinations we’ve visited, but whether we will launch flights there has not been decided.” He pointed out that all destinations are under consideration, and the Bangkok media reports about Tigerair Taiwan launching flights to Bangkok may have been triggered by the visit drawing local media attention. However, whether flights to Bangkok will be launched is still under assessment as Tigerair Taiwan evaluates the relevant details.

It is understood that Tigerair Taiwan’s first destination will likely be either Macau or Singapore. If Macau proves feasible, it will complement China Airlines’ existing Hong Kong route. Meanwhile, Singapore, the base of Tigerair, also stands a chance of becoming the inaugural destination due to operational experience advantages. Zhang Qiu-Hua confirmed that the first destination will be officially announced by the end of August.
