Bangkok’s Chinatown is located in the western part of Bangkok’s urban area and is one of the city’s most vibrant commercial districts. It is formed by three main streets—Sampheng, Yaowarat, and Charoen Krung—as well as many connecting alleys. In terms of scale and liveliness, it ranks among the top Chinatowns in Southeast Asia. The area is dominated by gold shops, which may have modest storefronts but are elaborately decorated. It is said that 70% of Bangkok’s gold shops are located in Chinatown. In addition, there are bookstores and newsstands selling Chinese books and newspapers, as well as Teochew theaters and Chinese cinemas.
