Wat Mahathat

Wat Mahathat was formerly known as "Wat Salak" and is located in Bangkok, Thailand. The prestigious Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya Buddhist University is situated within the temple grounds. This magnificent temple is one of Bangkok’s ten royal temples and was historically used primarily for royal ceremonies and funerals.

Despite the passage of more than two centuries, continuous renovations and decorations have helped Wat Mahathat retain its striking appearance and remain a captivating site. It was renamed to its current name in 1996. The yellow rooftops, white spires, and lush green lawns in the temple compound complement each other to form a beautiful landscape. Inside the temple, there are several resplendent Buddha statues that are highly eye-catching, and every visitor is drawn to study and discuss them. The Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University is housed within the temple complex. It is Thailand’s oldest university dedicated to monastic education, with a history of over 100 years, and is among the most important religious universities in the country.
