Wutong Island

Wutong Island is an island under the jurisdiction of Yeosu City, South Korea, just a 10-minute drive from downtown Yeosu. With its beautiful scenery, fresh air, and well-equipped tourism facilities, it is one of the must-visit attractions when traveling to Yeosu. The island covers a total area of 125,620.4 square meters, and is densely covered with over 200 types of evergreen trees such as camellias and haizang bamboo, almost blocking out the entire sky.

If you're going to Yeosu, you have to visit Wutong Island. And if you're going to Wutong Island, you must admire the camellias that cover the ground—it’s the heartfelt wish of every visitor. Currently, there are over 3,000 camellia trees on the island. Starting from October each year, the camellias begin to bud here and there, accompanying visitors throughout the winter with their vibrant red hues. By mid-February of the following year, about 30% of the camellias will have bloomed, and by mid-March, during the peak flowering season, the entire island becomes a sea of flaming red—an indescribable beauty.
