The 2012 World Expo will be held from May 12 to August 12 in Yeosu, South Korea. A total of 105 countries and 10 international organizations will participate, with the theme of “the Ocean and the Coast.” It is the world’s first innovative design of a World Expo built around the ocean as its main venue. The 1.74 million square meter “Yeosu New Port in South Jeolla Province” mainly features 14 exhibition zones and performance stages, 7 domestic corporate pavilions, and 4 outdoor thematic areas. Over the 93-day event period, there will be an average of 40 performances per day.

Prior to the official opening of the 2012 Yeosu Expo in South Korea, in order to encourage more friends from Taiwan to join in promoting the importance of protecting the Earth and the oceans, the Seoul Office of the Korea Tourism Organization, Taipei Branch, launched the “Protect the Earth with Yeosu” photo upload campaign. With just a gesture and one photo upload, you can show your care for the Earth through real action. From 18:00 on April 12, 2012 to 00:00 on May 11, 2012, participants can take a photo of the “Protect the Earth with Yeosu” hand gesture (two hands clasped together—refer to the official website event video for the gesture), upload it to the campaign website, and submit their information to enter the lucky draw. Prizes include Cheong Kwan Jang products, multiple round-trip flights to Korea, Samsung smartphones, Korean medical beauty and skincare products, as well as Seoul design-related cultural prizes.

The Expo is open daily from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM, with night entry starting at 7:00 PM. Individual tickets are expected to go on sale online in late April (night tickets must be purchased on-site). Regular weekday adult tickets are priced at 33,000 KRW (approx. NT$858) (night tickets 18,000 KRW / approx. NT$468), designated day tickets at 40,000 KRW (approx. NT$1,040) (night tickets 20,000 KRW / approx. NT$520), 2-day discount tickets at 53,000 KRW (approx. NT$1,378), 3-day discount tickets at 69,000 KRW (approx. NT$1,794); the full-period ticket, which allows free entry throughout the event duration, is 200,000 KRW (approx. NT$5,201) per ticket; a 5% discount is available for pre-orders placed before the end of April.
