Dragon Head Coast

The Yamrang Mountain Range extends toward the coast and has been eroded over time, forming a shape that resembles a dragon's head dipping into the sea—hence the name Dragon Head Coast. Here you’ll find sandstone layers accumulated over tens of millions of years. Deeply recessed caves and wide eroded rock walls shaped like rooms are layered in beautiful curves, creating a spectacular view. On the way to the coast, there is the “Hamel Drifting Memorial,” built to commemorate Hamel who drifted here in 1653 and lived in the area. On the right side of the coast, there is soft black sand. Additionally, you can see haenyeo (female divers) selling freshly caught sea cucumbers, and there is a path right along the shore where you can take a stroll.

Transportation 1. Take a bus bound for Yamrang Mountain from Jeju Intercity Bus Terminal and get off at Yamrang Mountain (first bus: 6:40 AM, last bus: 9:25 PM, travel time: 55 minutes, frequency: every 30–40 minutes), then walk 3–4 minutes toward the coast to reach Dragon Head Coast. 2. Taking a taxi from Jeju Intercity Bus Terminal takes about 40 minutes. 3. Take a bus bound for Sacheon (Seohae West Line Intercity Bus) from Seogwipo Station; the ride takes about 40 minutes and you’ll get off at the entrance of Yamrang-dong Temple (first bus: 6:35 AM, last bus: 9:10 AM, frequency: every 20–30 minutes), then walk 3–4 minutes toward the coast to reach Dragon Head Coast.
