At the Jusangjeolli Cliffs in Seogwipo City, Jeju Province, layered stone pillars can be seen piled up along the shoreline. This is a natural monument of Jeju Island. The Jusangjeolli Cliffs were formed when lava erupted from Mount Halla flowed into the sea off the Jungmun area and cooled, creating columns of various sizes—mostly square or hexagonal—in formations up to 30 meters high. In the past, this area was administratively called Jisatgae, so the name remains today, and these stone pillars are referred to as “Jisatgae Rocks.” It is also famous for waves crashing against cliffs nearly 20 meters high and for seaside fishing. From a small seaside village called Dap-dong, walk about 600 meters southwest along a rural path, and you’ll find cliffs emerging among pine trees. On the cliffs lies Jisatgae Coast, where the Jusangjeolli columns are found. The hexagonal and quadrangular rock formations look as if carved by a stonemason, creating a picturesque view that evokes awe at the greatness of nature. When waves are strong, they can reach up to 10 meters high, making for a truly spectacular sight.

Transportation: Take city bus No. 10 or 11, or intercity buses No. 101 or 102 from the Gyeongju Intercity Bus Terminal, Gyeongju Express Bus Terminal, or opposite Gyeongju Station, and get off at the Bulguksa Parking Lot. The journey takes about 40 minutes. Alternatively, take a taxi from the Gyeongju Intercity Bus Terminal, which takes about 20–25 minutes.
