Yakcheonsa Temple

Yakcheonsa Temple is located at 1165 Dapodong, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, South Korea. It is a temple built in the typical Buddhist architectural style of the early Joseon Dynasty and is one of the most famous religious tourist destinations in Seogwipo.

The total floor area of Yakcheonsa Temple is 3,305 square meters, and its height reaches up to 30 meters, approximately the size of a 10-story building. It is a relatively large structure among single-temple complexes. The main hall, known as the Dharma Hall, houses South Korea’s tallest main Buddha statue, the Vairocana Buddha, which sits on a 4-meter-high pedestal. The walls on both sides feature enormous, vividly carved frame paintings. In addition to the Dharma Hall, the temple complex includes the Daejigwangjeon Hall, a three-story lecture hall, the Samseongak Pavilion, and a stupa. It attracts not only numerous Buddhist devotees who come to pray, but also many visitors each year who come to make wishes.
