The Adachi Museum of Art is located in Yasugi City, Shimane Prefecture, in the Chūgoku region of Japan. It was established based on the art collection amassed by Mr. Adachi Zenkō, a native of Yasugi. Founded in 1970, the museum spans a total area of 43,000 square meters. In addition to its valuable art collection, it is also world-renowned for its exquisite Japanese gardens, making it one of the most famous tourist attractions in Yasugi and even in Shimane Prefecture.

The Adachi Museum of Art’s art collection and exhibitions cover various fields such as ceramics, sculpture, and gold leaf painting. It is particularly famous for its collection of works by the modern Japanese painter Yokoyama Taikan, and also boasts an extensive selection of ceramic pieces by artists such as Kitaoji Rosanjin and Kawai Kanjirō. Visitors to the Adachi Museum of Art can not only view the artworks on display but also admire its garden, acclaimed as the “best Japanese garden in Japan.” The garden embodies Mr. Adachi’s philosophy that “a garden is a living painting,” using borrowed scenery techniques to create a breathtaking visual effect by framing distant mountains and rivers that are not actually part of the garden grounds. Though compact in size, the garden features a thoughtfully arranged main scenery with strong layers and depth.
