Azalea Sea Covers the Mountains and Forests ! Japan’s Dreamy Flower-Viewing Shrine

In the grounds of Misumi Shrine in Hamada City, Shimane Prefecture, vibrant and colorful azaleas bloom every year from late April to early May, covering vast slopes in a magnificent sea of flowers. The scenery is spectacular, complemented by the shrine architecture and stone lanterns nearby, adding a dreamy touch to the classic traditional atmosphere.

Misumi Park is close to the western coast of Shimane Prefecture. After the cherry blossom season in spring, the gorgeous azaleas begin to bloom, and Misumi Park also holds a multi-day Azalea Festival during this period.

The park covers an area of 4.5 hectares and is planted with about 50,000 azalea bushes, including varieties such as Hirata and Kurume. They bloom every May within the precincts of Misumi Shrine, becoming a highlight of tourism in Hamada City and a popular flower-viewing destination in the Chugoku region of Japan.
