Oze National Park is a national park that spans across Fukushima, Tochigi, Gunma, and Niigata prefectures in Japan. The park centers around Oze, Japan’s largest alpine wetland area, as well as surrounding scenic spots such as Mount Kusatsu-Shirane, Mount Tashiro, and Mount Mount Tekari, serving the dual mission of preserving the natural ecological environment and providing tourism opportunities.

Oze was formed when lava from Mount Hiuchigatake was blocked by the Tadami River, creating a high-altitude zone between 1,400 and 1,700 meters above sea level — Japan’s largest high moor wetland area. Within Oze, there are approximately 400 shallow ponds and marshes where you can observe wetland vegetation such as the rare skunk cabbage and yellow daylily (a type of yellow lily), as well as floating islands formed by peat layers rising to the surface. From spring to summer, various flowers bloom across the wetlands, competing in beauty and fragrance, while the fresh air and stunning scenery make for an unforgettable experience.

In addition to the beautiful landscapes within the wetland, the mountainous scenery of Mount Kusatsu-Shirane and Mount Tekari within Oze National Park is also highly worth visiting. Especially impressive are the vast stretches of creeping pine forests and beech virgin forests, which undulate in the wind, creating a spectacular sight.
