Shimotsuke City

Shimotsuke City is a city located in the southern part of Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. It was established in 2006 through a new merger between Minamikawachi Town in Kawachi District, Kokubunji Town and Ishibashi Town in Shimotuge District. The city is home to the National Defense Medical College and is also the birthplace of Japanese politician Hisao Kuno.

Compared to other cities, Shimotsuke City does not have an abundance of tourist attractions, which include the ruins of Shimotsuke Yakushiji Temple, the ruins of Shimotsuke Kokubunji Temple, the ruins of the nunnery of Shimotsuke Kokubunji Temple, the tomb of Dokyo at Shimotsuke Yakushiji Temple, and the Higashine Offering Pagoda. In spring, the cherry blossoms here bloom vibrantly, making it an ideal spot for hanami.
