Beitou Church of the Presbyterian Church

Beitou Church of the Presbyterian Church is a church located in Beitou District, Taipei City, Taiwan, and is one of the important historic sites in Beitou. It is a long, Western-style church built in 1912 on land donated by Presbyterian member Chen Jin and designed by missionary William Gauld. The entrance is narrow, and there is also a rain shelter above it.

Although small and situated with a road and power lines right in front, the Beitou Church does not fail to showcase its charming, quaint English-style features. Its structure resembles a small wooden cabin, accented with red brick trim along the edges. The exterior walls feature striped buttresses and white stucco, and the windows are quite small, each topped with a triangular lintel. During World War II, the church was requisitioned by the Japanese government as a warehouse. Prior to and after that period, occasional part-time pastors from Taipei Theological Seminary served here until 1946, when Reverend Lin Zaitian was appointed as the first full-time pastor of the independent Beitou Presbyterian congregation, giving the church an official leader. In 1963, Reverend Lin passed away, and Reverend Kang Zhili has since presided over the church, which continues to hold regular services today.
