As the weather gets colder, many hot spring enthusiasts flock to Beitou in Taipei. But beyond the baths, there are plenty of other sights worth exploring. ● Beitou Hot Spring Museum
The Beitou Hot Spring Bathhouse was built in 1913 by the Taipei Prefecture, modeled after the Izu-Yamanashi Hot Springs in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. It was a famous public bathhouse during the Japanese colonial period. The first floor houses large and small baths filled with blue sulfur and green sulfur hot spring water, while the second floor originally served as a mixed-gender bath area. The building’s structure was completed using red bricks and reinforced concrete. Its architecture features a blend of Japanese and Western styles, with sloping roofs and arched windows, exuding an elegant ambiance that takes visitors back a century.
