Fushoushan Farm

Fushoushan Farm is located on the southern side of Lishan, on slopes at an elevation of 1,800–2,584 metres, covering a total area of 803 hectares. It is the earliest developed among the three major high-altitude farms managed by the Veterans Affairs Council (the other two being Qingjing and Wuling), producing cool-temperate crops such as fruits, vegetables, and tea leaves. The farm is especially famous for its apples.

From Lishan, take Fushou Road uphill. Along the way, you’ll see undulating distant mountains, cedar-lined roads, and a uniform landscape of orchards, tea plantations, and vegetable fields. After about 5.5 kilometres, you’ll reach the visitor centre at the farm headquarters.

The farm spans a vast area, offering ever-changing natural and agricultural scenery throughout the seasons. In late winter and early spring, plum and cherry blossoms are the first to herald the new year, followed by peach, plum, and azalea blooms. Throughout summer and autumn, the farm is blanketed in a sea of cosmos flowers, coinciding with the fruit ripening season. As autumn turns to winter, the fiery red maple leaves fade, and the distant snow-capped mountains further enhance Fushoushan’s charm. However, to fully appreciate the seasonal beauty and breathe in the fresh, sweet air, it’s best to walk the forest bathing trails. The trails stretch 6,026 metres in total, starting from the visitor centre and leading to various destinations including Feixue Pavilion, Mandarin Duck Lake, Fushoushan Villa, Songling, the Tea Processing Plant, the Sightseeing Orchard, and finally Huagang Tianchi (Heavenly Lake) and Daguan Pavilion.

The Tianchi (Heavenly Lake), surrounded by the whispering of pine trees, is not large in surface area but remains clean and unfrozen all year round. If the lake is compared to a lotus pedestal, the surrounding mountain ranges are like its petals, forming an exquisitely beautiful and spiritually rich site. Daguan Pavilion is a two-storey wooden structure with simple yet elegant interiors. The lake sits right on the mountain ridge, offering panoramic views in all directions: to the north are the western ridges of Snow Mountain, Wuling Four Beauties, and the Mingling and Hehuan peaks of the Central Mountain Range; to the west lie the Baigu Mountain Range; while to the northeast, the Siyuan Pass, and to the southwest, the Wushe-Puli area, often see sea of clouds forming.

Additionally, Fushoushan Farm is home to the highest-altitude tea-growing region in Taiwan. Its “Fushoushan Evergreen Tea” is fragrant and sweet on the palate, mostly produced as oolong tea.

Transportation Guide: Buses to Lishan are available from Taipei Main Station, Fengyuan City, Hualien City, and Luodong Town. From Lishan, transfer to a Fengyuan bus heading for Huagang, and get off at Fushoushan Farm.
