At 8:55 p.m. on October 15, the last Tze-Chiang Limited Express train departed from Taichung Railway Station, marking the end of the era of ground-level railways. This attracted a large number of railway enthusiasts and passengers concerned about Taichung Railway Station to witness this historic moment. After 6:00 a.m. on October 16, TRA trains began operating on the elevated tracks. In addition, four...elevated stations— including Fengyuan, Tanzi, Taiyuan, and Daqing Stations — were also opened simultaneously.

The Taichung Railway elevated project extends from 1.9 km north of Taichung’s Fengyuan Station to 1.4 km south of Daqing Station, converting the existing railway into an elevated line, with a total length of 21.7 km.

The total cost of this project amounted to NT$37.241 billion. The renovated stations include five existing stations: Fengyuan, Tanzi, Taiyuan, Taichung, and Daqing. Additionally, five new elevated commuter stations were built: Lilin, Toujiacuo, Songzhu, Jingwu, and Wuquan. Among them, Songzhu and Daqing Stations, along with Taichung Metro Line G4 and G13 Stations, have transfer mechanisms reserved.

The Taichung Railway elevated project aims to provide convenient express transit within the metropolitan area, eliminate obstacles to development along both sides of the railway, and promote balanced urban growth. The main entrance of Taichung Railway Station has also been turned to face Fuxing Road (formerly the rear station), removing 17 level crossings along the railway, improving the cityscape, enhancing the quality of life in the metropolitan environment, and revitalizing nearby attractions and businesses. This also brings new topics and momentum to tourism.
