Lishan belongs to Heping Township in Taichung County and sits at an altitude of nearly 2,000 meters. Originally inhabited by the Atayal people, it became the junction of the eastern and western sections of the Central Cross-Island Highway and its Yilan branch after the highway was opened to traffic. Known for its abundant production of various temperate fruits, it has become a world-renowned tourist destination. The Lishan Scenic Area features attractions such as the Lishan Cultural Relics Exhibition Hall and sightseeing orchards. The Lishan Cultural Relics Exhibition Hall displays mountain indigenous cultural artifacts, the history of Lishan’s development, and engineering materials related to the construction of the Central Cross-Island Highway. The nearby sightseeing orchards vary with the seasons, but their well-known specialties include apples, peaches, and pears.
