Dongshi Forest Farm

Dongshi Forest Farm is located in Dongxinli, Dongshi Township, Taichung County. It offers a wealth of natural ecological resources for flower, bird, and firefly viewing as well as forest bathing, along with the country’s largest physical mountain training field. It has been renowned for over a century, covering an area of more than 200 hectares. With lush forests and a wide variety of trees and flowers developed over two to three decades, and situated at an altitude of about 500 meters, it remains extremely cool in summer, making it an ideal summer retreat.

The main attraction of Dongshi Forest Farm lies in its distinct seasonal landscape changes. The farm is centered around the Rural Youth Activity Center and features well-equipped barbecue areas, a rainy-day camping site, cabins, a forest bathing area, a horse riding field, an orange grove, Mystic Valley, and Lovers' Valley. It also houses the largest physical mountain training field in the country, designed according to differences in age, gender, and physical ability. Facilities include water activities, obstacle courses, artificial ski slopes, and more. Winter activities such as plum blossom and cherry blossom viewing are highlights. The plum garden spans over 30 hectares, with the blooming season typically from December to January, while cherry blossoms bloom from January to February. It is also the first recreational area in the country to successfully breed fireflies in the wild. Starting around April, colorful butterflies can be seen dancing throughout Butterfly Valley near the farm’s entrance.
