National Museum of Natural Science, Taiwan

The National Museum of Natural Science, Taiwan, abbreviated as the Science Museum, is located in North District, Taichung City. It is the first of the museums planned under Taiwan’s Twelve Major Cultural Construction Projects, specifically the Taiwan Science Museum initiative. Planning began in 1981, and it took 15 years to complete and fully open to the public. With its diverse indoor exhibition halls and botanical garden, it offers the people of Taiwan an excellent place to learn about and engage with nature, especially native Taiwanese plants. According to statistics, the museum receives approximately 3 million visitors annually, making it the second most visited site in Taiwan, only after the National Palace Museum.

The National Museum of Natural Science, Taiwan, consists of the Science Center, Space Theater, Life Science Hall, Chinese Science Hall, Earth Environment Hall, and Botanical Garden. The Science Center opened in January 1986 and features five thematic areas: Science Exploration, The World of Integrated Circuits, Cosmic Voyage, Material World, and Children’s Science Park. Its interactive exhibits allow visitors to understand these subjects more vividly and have received high praise from parents.

The most popular attraction at the National Museum of Natural Science, Taiwan, is its Botanical Garden. Opened to the public in July 1999, it is a tropical rainforest greenhouse constructed entirely from glass and steel, standing 31 meters tall and covering an area of 4.5 hectares — the largest of its kind in Asia.
