Couple Trees

The Couple Trees are part of a national forest park.

One of Taiwan’s famous sacred trees and one of the tourist attractions along the New Central Cross-Island Highway. Located in the Tataga section of the New Central Cross-Island Highway in Xinyi Township, Nantou County, within the territory of Yushan National Park, it is a must-pass spot on the way to the Yushan hiking trailhead, making it particularly prominent. The Couple Trees consist of a pair of dead red cypress trees that form a striking sacred tree landscape. They died in a forest fire in 1963 and were later struck by lightning in 1996, resembling the former state of the Sacred Tree of Alishan. Today, the Couple Trees are one of the popular attractions in Yushan National Park.
