The Nantou Lantern Festival will begin in Jiji on February 6. Today (4th), the Nantou County Government held the maiden voyage ceremony for the lantern train at Zhuoshui Station. The four painted lantern trains, themed around the impressions of Nantou, made their first joint appearance. The trains use animals and images to express the region’s rich resources, and will transform into “lantern trains” at night.

The Nantou Lantern Festival will be held during the Lunar New Year period, starting with the lighting ceremony on February 6 and continuing until the end of the 228 Holiday. Leveraging Jiji Town’s tourism resources, the Nantou County Government has adopted four major themes — “The Beauty of Indigenous Tribes,” “The Abundance of Local Produce,” “The Finest Scenery,” and “The Essence of Art” — paired with lively depictions of Nantou’s iconic animals such as the Formosan black bear, hundred-pace viper, and sika deer to express the spirit of Nantou. Each painted train conveys the most enchanting tourist charm of the region.

During the day, the trains are vibrant, design-forward, and full of childlike wonder. The biggest surprise comes at night when their exteriors glow as radiant lantern trains in the darkness. The debut of the four themed trains together creates a strong festive atmosphere and stands out vividly against the night sky.
