Introduction: Nantou County’s Shitoushan, Lishan, and Baguashan are Taiwan’s first scenic area established through a non-contiguous (leapfrog) approach, covering a total area of 77,521 hectares. Lishan boasts abundant bird resources, primarily mountain birds and stream birds. Representative butterflies include the Common Birdwing, Great Red Apollo, and Double-ringed Peacock, while the butterfly viewing season in mid-to-low altitudes is from June to September and in high altitudes from July to August. At Baguashan, you can spot many bird species such as the Crested Goshawk, Green-backed Tit, Chinese Bulbul, Japanese White-eye, Pink Parrotbill, and Bamboo Partridge. Every March and April, tens of thousands of Grey-faced Buzzards migrate through the area. Additionally, the region features numerous faults formed due to geological activities such as folding and faulting of the mountains, resulting in landscapes like the Sanjiacun Fault, Nanliufenliao Fault, Tianzhong Forest Park Geological Landscape, Hengshan Fault, and Mingshan Fault. Transportation: Railway: Shitoushan Scenic Area: Take the Neiwan Line train from Xinzuoying Station on the Western Trunk Line, then transfer to a bus to Zhudong Station, and finally take a local passenger transport to the scenic spots. Baguashan Scenic Area: The Western Trunk Line can take you to nearby towns and stops (such as Changhua, Yuanlin, Tianzhong, Ershui, etc.). Bus: Shitoushan Scenic Area: Various attractions are accessible via shuttle buses operated by Xinzhushan Bus and Miaoli Bus (boarding stations are Zhudong Station and Toufen Station respectively).
