Xuan Guang Temple

Xuan Guang Temple is a cultural tourism attraction.

Xuan Guang Temple is located about 2.5 kilometers from Sun Moon Lake. Built in the 44th year of the Republic of China (1955), it originally served as a temporary resting place for the relics of Master Xuanzang after they were brought back from Japan. In the 54th year of the Republic of China (1965), after the completion of Xuanzang Temple, the relics were moved there.

The temple features Japanese-style architecture and enshrines a golden statue of Master Xuanzang, with a plaque reading “National Teacher.” It sits against the mountain and overlooks the lake, just over ten meters from the water’s edge. At the base of the temple is a wharf where visitors can take a boat and then climb the steps to explore the site.
